SECTION 1Who this agreement is with
This agreement is between Lee's Tae Kwon Do LLC, doing business as Master Lee's Leaders Taekwondo, and the person registering — or, where the competitor is under 18, the parent or legal guardian registering on their behalf. Throughout this page, that competitor is the Participant.
Where this page refers to the Released Parties, it means Lee's Tae Kwon Do LLC together with its owners, officers, directors, members, employees, instructors, coaches, referees, judges, officials, volunteers, contractors, insurers and agents; the 2026 Houston Open Leaders Taekwondo Championships as an event; the owner and operator of the venue, British International School of Houston, and its employees and agents; and all other participating schools, their instructors and their competitors.
SECTION 2The events and their risks
Competition involves deliberate physical contact, striking, and the breaking of boards. These risks cannot be removed no matter how carefully the event is run.
A Participant may enter any of the following: Little Tigers Form & Breaking, Little Tigers Zemita Speed Kicking, Obstacle Course, Forms, Team Forms, Board Breaking, Zemita Speed Kicking, Sparring, and Demonstration Team.
I understand the risks include, and are not limited to:
- Being struck by hands, feet, elbows or knees, including blows to the head
- Concussion and other traumatic brain injury
- Injury to the neck or spine, including paralysis
- Broken bones, dislocations, sprains and torn ligaments or muscles
- Dental, facial and eye injury
- Cuts, bruising and internal injury
- Injury from board breaking, including to the hand, wrist, forearm and foot
- Falls, and collisions with equipment, walls or other people
- Heat illness, dehydration, cardiac events, and aggravation of an existing condition
- Injury caused by the conduct of other competitors, spectators or officials
- Permanent disability and death
These risks are present during warm-up, practice and competition, and anywhere at the venue.
SECTION 3Accepting the risk
I have read the risks above, I understand them, and I knowingly and voluntarily accept all of them — those listed here and any others that come with this activity, whether or not they can be foreseen. Taking part is my choice.
I confirm the Participant is in good physical condition, has trained appropriately for the events entered, and has no condition that would make competing unsafe. That judgment is mine to make, and I take responsibility for it.
SECTION 4Release of liability
What you are agreeing to
In exchange for being allowed to take part, I release, waive and discharge the Released Parties from all claims, demands, causes of action, damages, costs and expenses of any kind — including personal injury, disability, death, and loss of or damage to property — arising out of or relating to participation in or attendance at this event.
This release expressly includes claims caused in whole or in part by the negligence of the Released Parties, including their own negligent acts and omissions, negligent instruction, negligent supervision, negligent selection or training of officials and volunteers, negligent maintenance of equipment or premises, and negligent provision or omission of medical assistance.
It is intended to be as broad as Texas law allows. It does not release gross negligence, wilful or wanton misconduct, or intentional acts.
I agree not to bring a claim against any of the Released Parties for anything this release covers, and I accept that this agreement binds me, my family, my heirs, my estate and anyone acting on my behalf.
SECTION 5Covering costs
I agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless the Released Parties from any claim, liability, judgment, settlement, cost or expense — including reasonable attorney's fees — brought by me, by the Participant, or by anyone acting on the Participant's behalf, arising out of participation in or attendance at this event.
This applies whether the claim is brought now or after the Participant turns 18.
SECTION 6If the competitor is under 18
I confirm I am the parent or legal guardian of the Participant, and that I have full authority to register them and to enter this agreement.
I agree to this document on my own behalf and on behalf of the Participant. That includes releasing every claim I personally have or may have arising from an injury to the Participant — medical expenses, loss of their companionship, emotional distress, and any bystander claim.
I understand that Texas law limits a parent's ability to release a child's own personal-injury claim, and that Section 5 requires me to cover the costs if such a claim is brought.
SECTION 7Medical certification and consent to treat
I certify that the medical information given during registration is true and complete, and that any condition, allergy, medication or previous injury affecting the Participant's safety has been disclosed.
In an emergency, I authorise event staff, medical personnel and emergency services to give first aid, medical treatment and transport to hospital if I cannot be reached in time.
I accept responsibility for all medical, ambulance and hospital costs, and confirm that insurance is my own responsibility. The Released Parties do not provide medical or accident insurance for participants.
SECTION 8Rules and conduct
- The Participant will follow all tournament rules, division guidelines, and the instructions of referees, judges and officials.
- Officials' decisions are final. Abusive conduct toward officials, competitors, staff or spectators — by a competitor, parent or coach — may result in removal from the venue without refund.
- Competitors must enter the correct age, belt and event divisions. False information may lead to disqualification without refund.
- The organiser may change schedules, divisions, rings or formats, and may postpone, shorten or cancel the event for safety or for circumstances beyond its control.
SECTION 9Photography and video
I give the Released Parties permission to photograph and record the Participant at the event, and to use those images for promotion, social media, websites and print, without payment or further approval. If you would prefer we did not, email us before the event at the address below and we will honour it.
SECTION 10Entry fees and refunds
Entry fees are non-refundable. Once you register, your place is confirmed and the costs of running the tournament — venue, officials, medals and equipment — are committed in advance.
If the organiser cancels the tournament outright, entry fees are refunded in full.
Exceptional circumstances are considered case by case, at the organiser's discretion.
SECTION 11General terms
Governing law. This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Texas.
Severability. If any part of this agreement is found unenforceable, that part will be limited or removed only so far as necessary, and everything else stays in effect.
Entire agreement. This page is the whole agreement between us about this event and replaces any earlier understanding. Nothing said verbally changes it.
Agreeing freely. I have read this page in full. I understand it releases legal rights and creates an obligation to cover costs. I am agreeing to it freely, and I have had the chance to ask questions or seek legal advice first.
